Aphasia is a communication disorder impacting a person’s ability to speak and understand language. Reading and writing can also be impacted. Aphasia most commonly occurs following a stroke or brain injury. Individual’s with aphasia may have difficulty finding the words they want to say, effectively expressing themselves and difficulty understanding what people are saying or asking.
